Description
Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, global healthcare systems face significant challenges, particularly in managing public health emergencies and adapting to social distancing measures. In Sri Lanka, the absence of a centralized population registry for healthcare institutions has led to communication gaps and inefficient care coordination. While Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems offer a solution for sharing patient information, issues persist with accessing data across disparate EHRs while maintaining patient privacy. Moreover, the reliance on printed medical records in Sri Lanka necessitates time-consuming and error-prone manual data entry into EHR systems.
To address these challenges, our research proposes four innovative solutions: a Blockchain-based Patient Health Record System for secure and distributed management of health records, an OCR and NLP-based Medical Document Scanner to digitize printed records and reduce manual entry errors, an Image Processing-based Drug Identifier to enhance pharmaceutical safety and minimize medication errors, and a Medical Chatbot powered by NLP to facilitate efficient communication between healthcare providers and patients. These solutions aim to provide a comprehensive framework for improving healthcare accessibility, efficiency, and safety, especially during crises, by leveraging advanced technologies to overcome current limitations.
